Greektown is small Greek merchant community concentrated in downtown Detroit. It was established at the turn of the century by immigrant families. They came from Europe to live in Detroit. Greektown is located on Monroe Street, between St. Antoine and Beaubien Streets. This lively tourist area is just down the street from the current site of the Second Baptist Church. It is also only a few blocks from where Frederick Douglass and John Brown met over one hundred years ago.

Today, traditional Greek restaurants, bakeries, boutiques, and coffee houses line the streets of the Greektown district. Other popular cultural restaurants include: Grecian Pegasus Tavema and the New Hella's Cafe. an Italian pizza parlor named Pizza Papalis Travema, The Blue Nile an Ethiopian restaurant, and the southern Louisiana cajun restaurant called Fishbone's Rhythm Kitchen Cafe.
