The North American Black Historical Museum and Cultural Centre is located on 277 King Street in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada. On October 20, 1975, the museum became incorporated. It was established to depict the origins of the Canadian ancestors who had escaped to freedom and had settled in the Ontario area. The cultural center had its formal opening on Sunday, September 20, 1981. The Center is used for educational purposes. They often host seminars on the Underground Railroad and its conductors and passengers. The center hopes to keep the memory of the "Underground Railroad" alive forever. Commander Thomas R. Daniel Jr. participated in the 1995 "Pathways to Freedom" educational tour in honor of Mrs. Rosa Parks. He was the first African-American to command a United States Guided-Missile Navel Frigate. |
