Detroit has many different types of banks throughout the city. Large banks include Comerica, National Bank of Detroit and Michigan National Bank. The bank in the city with the most significance to African-Americans is First Independence National Bank. This bank’s head­quarters is located on Michigan Avenue and Griswold Street. It is one of several African-American banks in the city of Detroit. Available from First Independence National Bank are presentations for youth and young adults on budgeting, saving plans, loans and job opportunities. Detroit is the home of two other banks significant to African­Americans. The OmniBank has branches in Detroit, Highland Park and the city of River Rouge. 16 Michigan Coalition for Human Rights Detroit Based Freedom Tour Home Federal Savings Bank is among the first African-American banking institutions in the city of Detroit. It has been serving the Black community since 1946.
