Underground Railroad Tour at the Historic
First Congregational Church of Detroit

The above slave woman encourages slaves on the plantation to become passengers on the Underground Railroad.  Such a person was know as a "shepherd."  This elderly slave, too frail for the demanding travel of the Underground Railroad, will stay behind to encourge others to follow.
